MSc (Nursing) Inaugurated

An MSc (Nursing) program was recently inaugurated at the Amrita School of Nursing. The inaugural batch has 17 students enrolled.
 

Lighting the Lamp
 

“In Kerala, only three government colleges today offer the MSc (Nursing) degree,” stated Dr. Kochu Thresiamma Thomas, Registrar of the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council. She was the Chief Guest at the inauguration. “We have to develop nursing studies in the State to match the post-graduate syllabus that is prescribed for doctors,” she added.
 

In his benedictory address, Swami Poornamritananda Puri, welcomed the new students to Amrita and gave them a brief introduction to this unique institution. Prof. K.T. Molly, Principal of the Nursing College, also spoke. “We are proud to be the first private institution in Kerala to offer MSc (Nursing) degree,” she said.

Dr.Prathapan Nair, Principal, School of Medicine and Dr. V. Balakrishnan, HoD, Dept. of Gastroenterology were also on the dais. With this, the Amrita School of Nursing has joined the Amrita Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy, also located on the same health-care campus, in offering post graduate programs.
 

MSc (Nursing) offered by Amrita is approved by the Indian Medical Council. Students will be able to specialize in medical surgical nursing, pediatrics nursing or psychiatric nursing. Classes for these students began on May 4, 2009.
