Amrita School of Biotechnology Receives Gates Foundation Grant
The Amrita School of Biotechnology, Amritapuri Campus, was formally given the green-light to carry out its role in the ‘Reinvent the Toilet Challenge: India’ on March 27th, 2014. The collaborative effort of the US-based Bill& Melinda Gates Foundation, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) aims to develop a project that will facilitate the availability of decontaminated water and improve the conditions of sanitation in India. Amrita University’s School of Biotechnology was chosen for the grant award from a pool of 108 applications after an extensive and rigorous selection process. The grant award, worth two million US Dollars, was accepted by Dr. Bipin Nair, Dean of the Amrita School of Biotechnology, on behalf of the School and Amrita University.
